Introduction
This is a review of the Colonna Santa Alina Natural Lungo coffee capsule for the Nespresso Original Line machine. The capsule is meant to be brewed as a Lungo size coffee. The Colonna Santa Alina is a yellow-bourbon arabica from Brazil. Taste profile mentioned is rounded sweetness.
Aroma
The Colonna Santa Alina Natural Lungo has very strong floral aromas to it, and somewhat like cotton candy. It has a dense thick and light colored crema, and appears to be very good quality coffee.
Taste
The Colonna Santa Alina Natural Lungo when brewed as a Lungo still feels a bit watery, so I would recommend an espresso pour. I’m getting very light sweet notes with slight bitter afternotes. It takes kind of like cotton candy, but very light notes. There is not a very strong character to this coffee, but rather a light and mild coffee. It feels like an intensity 5 on the Nespresso scale.
Result
Colonna makes very good quality coffee that works with the Nespresso Original Line machines. The Colonna Santa Alina Natural Lungo is a light and mild coffee, and is good as an alternative to Nespresso if you are getting tired of the regular fare.
NOTE: I have a Creatista Uno machine, and I noticed when sometimes brewing the Colonna capsules the stream of water flow becomes very restricted. It only happens on a few of the capsules, but it seems to be a problem with the design of the capsules themselves; since I’ve never ever had that happen with any Nespresso capsule.
